‘The Dark Arches’
Rough sleeper debris left behind under the dark arches of Leeds railway station. Take away cartons, lottery tickets, alcohol bottles and cans, cigarette butts, underlay, newspapers, curtains to sleep under, stains. I often found myself alone under the dark arches. They fascinated me. Particularly what I could learn about the people that used them, and why. At the time I drew this Leeds City Council were offering one way train tickets for homeless sleepers to vacate the city.
